The refuge features 31 miles of year-round trails, searching and fishing opportunities. This path leaves the park to the north at the park entrance off state Route 32 and to the south of the driving stables. Overnight parking for path utilization is available on the Blackwater Lodge, but friends should register on the entrance desk.

Environmental Education programming is obtainable from April via October at both Promised Land State Park and Varden Conservation Area. From Memorial Day although Labor Day, recreational programming is offered on Fridays and Saturdays.
