Petit Jean State Park is an Arkansas traditional, a pure and historic treasure that has welcomed travelers for decades. The pure magnificence and historical geology of the legendary Petit Jean Mountain inspired the creation of Arkansas’s first state park and with it our state park system. The park mirrors the mountain’s rugged beauty with its rustic-style, native log and stone amenities constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps beginning in 1933. The hearth within the lobby serves as a welcoming gathering place in the winter.

It supplies an exhilarating rush of chilly mountain air with a brisk ride down a quarter-mile of fresh powder surrounded by frosted evergreens. Add more winter adventure by renting cross-country skis or snowshoes and tackling a few of Blackwater Falls’ snow-covered trails. The park has more than 20 miles of hiking trails and ten miles of cross-country snowboarding trails. The Great Smoky Mountains abound with the two components essential for waterfalls-ample rainfall and an elevation gradient.
