Brown landscaped grounds in the heart of Wiltshire, Longleat
House is widely regarded as the best example of high Elizabethan
architecture in Britain and one of the most beautiful
stately homes.
Longleat is also renowned for its safari park the first
of its kind in the United Kingdom where visitors have
a rare opportunity to see hundreds of animals in a natural
woodland and parkland setting.
Culture
Many buildings from this period remain, including the
magnificent Bristol Cathedral, the Lord Mayors Chapel
and the narrow lanes of the Old City quarter. By Georgian
times the city was fast growing out of the parameters
out of the old medieval town. Row upon row of honey
coloured terraces and mansions were built on the heights
of Clifton where the gentle folk of the time could escape
from the bustle of Bristol's harbour.
The S.S. Great Britain was the worlds first great ocean
liner being Brunel's masterpiece of ship design and
engineering. It is now housed in the original 'Great
Western Dock' where she was built in 1843. Bristol's
harbour has now been given over to many leisure pursuits.
