Together, these two natural areas embody one of the few remaining undeveloped barrier seashores within the northeast United States. Rolling sand dunes, salt-sculptured vegetation, lush green salt marshes and 9 plant communities including a nationally important maritime forest characterize Island Beach. The federally threatened piping plover is an occasional inhabitant of the open beaches and dunes. The Margaritaville State of Mind becomes actuality in a tropical paradise.
